VAN WESTIES: By invitation only…

You are invited to a Routinetensive!

A Routinetensive is like a workshop intensive but specifically for choreography for a full (short) song. This is not a formation team, so it can be learned independently with your partner.
We’ll teach it in person all at once so you would not have to decipher any videos or organize on your own.
This year, there will only be 2.5 phrases to learn, which means it will be faster to learn and we can spend more time polishing.

After years of creating choreography for competition couples and teams, we know how important it is to make sure the difficulty level is in the sweet spot: not so easy that it looks boring, but also not so challenging that you struggle to do it or remember it. The easier the moves are to remember and transition between, the more you can refine it and really “own” it in your body. This is what makes learning choreography so satisfying: when you can train your body to move in new ways and the final product looks smooth, intentional, confident, and exciting. When the moves are on the easier side, will be coaching you on these refinements to upgrade the quality of movement and presentation of them. See an example clip under the Files tab.

Our hope is that many of the dancers who learn it will be ready to perform it at Robson Square July 25, but this is not a requirement for participating in the Routinetensive.

The Routinetensive dates would be at DVS:
Sunday June 29 5-7 pm (Learn the whole choreo and film it)
Sunday July 6 5-6:30pm (Review & polish with Myles)
Sunday July 20 5-6:30pm (Review & polish with Tessa)

It’s ok if you have to miss a session, as long as you catch up using the video.
Each session also has open practice time available afterward until 7pm.

You would get a full instructional video on it breaking down the moves from the front and back, both with and without music, as well as a song map outlining the moves with their timing on paper. This will help you practice with your partner on your own time.

Partners *are* required for this Routinetensive, but by invitation only (this means that we are not making this experience open to everyone in Vancouver). You can choose your own partner from the list below, or someone else as long as they meet the minimum requirement of being at least a “Junior” dancer (those who have been dancing for 2 years or more or did last year’s Routinetensive). This is to ensure a minimum level of competency so that we can spend minimum time teaching the core movements and maximize teaching the presentation/refinement/tricks.

The cost of the whole experience, regardless of how many of the sessions you can attend or if you perform, is $99 CAD.

Look in the Guides tab to find the Google spreadsheet of invitees and potential partners.
