Learn to dance Modern Swing with a
super fun 2-hour crash course

Sunday July 31 6pm

Looking to let loose?

Wanna enjoy good music and good humans?

Want something to get you off the couch but not too serious?

Wanna feel more confident on the dance floor?

Want something fun to do with friends and dates?

...then you're going to LOVE this...

West Coast Swing (WCS) is a modern version of Swing dancing, done to contemporary and classic Pop, R&B, Funk, and Blues.

It's a social dance you do with a partner,
BUT you don't need to BYO partner -
it's common to show up solo and switch partners each song.

No traditional role requirement here -
feel free to dance as a leader or a follower (and many learn to switch!)

West Coast Swing is known for being the most equitable partner dance:  both partners have freedom to express themselves and contribute to the dance.

WCS can be danced to all genres of music, which makes it super versatile and satisfying to dance to your favourite songs.

It's like skiing: you don't need to be amazing in order to enjoy yourself - you just need to learn a few essential skills and the rules of the game!

and this is the perfect time to learn!

FAQ

What's the location?

The DanceVancouver studio is on the second floor of 1627 W. Broadway at Fir. Unfortunately, this venue is not wheelchair accessible. We acknowledge that this venue is situated on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Do I need to register with a partner?

Nope. Partner?  No partner?  Multiple parters?  NO PROBLEM, we can accommodate everyone!

I've never danced before. Will this be over my head?

Nope! It's designed to teach West Coast Swing from scratch.

I've danced WCS in my Ballroom classes. Is it the same thing?

Nope! Authentic West Coast Swing is quite a different style from Ballroom West Coast Swing. We think you will find it more relaxed, funky, and organic. But you may find some of the steps familiar.

I'm an LGBTQ2S+ ally. May I participate?

You bet! This is an inclusive event.

What should I wear/bring?

Dress comfortably so you can move and sweat (good reminder to take care of your hygiene too!). The important thing is the shoes: make sure they are not too sticky rubber soles, or too high heels, because these will make turning difficult. Bring a waterbottle and we recommend a hand fan - not just to be fabulous, but actually too cool off. The A/C works great, but if we're having fun, we'll sweat!
